Hearing Loss
Hearing loss is defined as the inability to partially or completely hear sounds in one or both the ears.
Hearing loss can be caused due to various factors like age, hereditary factors, exposure to loud noise, middle ear pathologies, trauma or accidents and also can be associated with other health issues. However, in few cases the cause is unknown. Hearing loss can be congenital (from birth) or acquired.
There are different degrees of hearing loss. It ranges from mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe to profound hearing loss. Management of hearing loss includes Digital hearing aid use, Cochlear implants, Surgical correction, Assistive listening devices.
Number of factors like the type of Hearing loss, Etiology, patient expectations and needs, audiogram patterns etc., are considered before advising the apt management procedure. Nevertheless, our technology has helped overcome the Hearing difficulties faced by individuals.
Hearing loss is assessed and diagnosed by expert Audiologists at Hearing Wellness Clinic, on a case to case basis every patient is assessed and the best possible solution is advised.
You may notice a number of early warning signs and changes in your behavior that may be related to hearing loss. You may begin to:

Completely in the canal (CIC) or mini CIC & IIC (Invisible in the Canal):
A completely-in-the-canal hearing aid is molded to fit inside your ear canal. It improves mild to moderate hearing loss in adults. It Is the smallest and least visible type & less likely to pick up wind noise. Uses very small batteries, which have shorter life and can be difficult to handle Doesn’t contain extra features, such as volume control or a directional microphone Is susceptible to earwax clogging. It Can cover Hearing Loss upto 105dB
In the canal (ITC):
An in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aid is custom molded and fits partly in the ear canal. This style can improve mild to moderate hearing loss in adults. An in-the-canal hearing aid Is less visible in the ear than larger styles Includes features that won’t fit on completely-in-the-canal aids, but may be difficult to adjust due to its small size Is susceptible to earwax clogging
In the ear (ITE): An in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid is custom made in two styles — one that fills most of the bowl-shaped area of your outer ear (full shell) and one that fills only the lower part (half shell). Both are helpful for people with mild to severe hearing loss. An in-the-ear hearing aid Includes features such as volume control and directional microphones that are easier to adjust Is generally easier to insert Uses larger batteries, which are easier to handle and last longer Is susceptible to earwax clogging, It May pick up more wind noise than smaller devices. Is more visible in the ear than smaller devices
Behind the ear (BTE): A behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid hooks over the top of your ear and rests behind the ear. A tube connects the hearing aid to a custom earpiece called an Earmolds that fits in your ear canal. This types appropriate for people of all ages and those with almost any type of hearing loss. A behind-the-ear hearing aid Traditionally has been the largest type of hearing aid, though some newer mini designs are streamlined and barely visible Is capable of more amplification than are other styles. May pick up more wind noise than other styles.
Receiver in canal or Receiver in the ear (RIC):
The receiver-in-canal (RIC) and receiver-in-the-ear (RITE) styles are similar to a behind-the-ear hearing aid with the speaker or receiver in the canal or in the ear. A tiny wire, rather than tubing, connects the pieces. A receiver-in-canal hearing aid Has a less visible behind-the-ear portion Is susceptible to earwax clogging.
Open fit
An open-fit hearing aid is a variation of the behind-the-ear hearing aid. This style keeps the ear canal very open, allowing for low-frequency sounds to enter the ear naturally and for high-frequency sounds to be amplified through the hearing aid. This makes the style a good choice for people with mild to profound hearing loss. The open-fit behind-the-ear style has become the most popular. An open-fit hearing aid Is less visible. Doesn’t plug the ear like the small in-the-canal hearing aids do, making your own speech sound better to you Is difficult to handle due to small parts and batteries Often lacks manual adjustments due to its small size.
Selection Of Hearing Aid
As it is known that human being can hear from 20 to 20000Hz. Recently with the new technological Advancements allow us a bandwidth of 125 Hz to 14000Hz in which more number of processing channels give you more clarity with the faster rate of processing to give you unmatched Hearing Experience. Along with this there are other features of the Hearing Aids which depends on the channels and bands in the Hearing Aids making it more important to have more number of channels to have much more clear hearing.

Directional Microphones:
This makes you focus of speech and reduces noise. The reduction of noise and speech focus is also channel and band dependent.
Feedback Management:
This is a process of suppressing whistling within milliseconds. To have more precise feedback management the more number of channels and bands are more effective without compromising the gain of the Hearing Aid.
Telecoil:
It is very important parts of the device while you are talking of phones are in theaters, cinemas or public areas.
Multi-Channel Adaptive Microphone:
It can follow and fade out multiple moving sources of background noise making sure clear Speech understanding in noisy environments.
Speech Focus:
This is again a channels and Band dependent feature. It makes you hear speech well in the presence of background noise, even when it comes from behind you or from the side. The higher channels give you more speech focus. Automatic Adaptive Microphone:
In noisy situations the microphone switches focus towards the speech, reducing the intensity of noise around you making it much easier to listen in noise. This even reduces source of noise if they are moving.
Sound Smoothing:
It is reducing sudden high sounds and noises to make hearing comfortable.
Directional Speech Enhancement:
It takes Speech & Noise management at higher level by filtering out noises & making speech more clear.
Frequency Compression:
It shift high-pitched sounds that the client would otherwise be unable making residual hearing more better.

Hearing Protection
Exposure to noise more than 80dB can cause permanent hearing loss. Examples for loud noises that can damage our natural hearing capacity are traffic noise at a busy junction, industrial noise, machinery noise, loud music at pubs, live concerts etc.
Short term exposure to loud noise can also cause a temporary change in hearing (your ears may feel stuffed up) or a ringing in your ears (tinnitus). These short-term problems may go away within a few minutes or hours after leaving the noisy area. However, repeated exposures to loud noise can lead to permanent tinnitus and/or hearing loss.
As nothing can replace our natural hearing, we at Hearing wellness clinic gives high level importance to Hearing Protection also. Our ear protective devices (EPD) are of international standards which are customized based on one’s ear canal size. We consider ones need of protection before advising them the type of EPD to use. For Eg: DJ’s and musicians are advised to use our Musicians ear plugs where as an industrial worker is advised to use noise filters or solid ear plugs.
Our EPD’s include swimmer’s ear plugs, Noise filters, Musician’s ear plugs, Solid ear plugs, Sleeping ear plugs. All these are highly durable, made of imported material (soft) and can be used for a long period of time without any kind of wear and tear.
We always advice everyone who come across unavoidable noisy situations to use an EPD. Traffic policemen, DJ’s, RJ’s, Industrial workers, young party crowd, regular swimmers are few of them.
HEARING PROTECTION DEVICES IS AVAILABLE IN TYPES AND SIZES
These range from yellow plugs inserted into the ear to customized otoplastics. Each type of hearing protection has specific qualities.
Foam Ear Plugs
Visitors to factories or construction sites are often given such ear protection. They are cheap. The disadvantage of these is that they can irritate the ear.
When these are inserted into the ear with dirty fingers, there is a risk of external ear infections.
WAX BALLS
These completely seal off the hearing so you get the sensation of being closed off from the outside world. They are cheap, but slightly more expensive than (yellow) foam earplugs.
EARMUFFS
Available in various models. They can also be clicked onto a safety helmet, for example. There are also special earmuffs for children who wish to learn in a focused manner, for instance. The earmuffs cover the ear completely.
Depending on the material used, the earmuffs can irritate around the ears, particularly in warm weather.
SILICON PLUGS & OTOPLASTICS
These resemble the (yellow) foam plugs but are made from a less irritating material. You only cover the auditory canal with these earplugs
Customized hearing protection. Motorcyclists and musicians often use customized otoplastics. This type of hearing protection fits perfectly and can last for years. Alpine Hearing Protection supplies otoplastics with various muffler values.
UNIVERSAL EARPLUGS
Now the most popular earplugs. These completely seal off the auditory canal, but the layer system prevents a sense of being shut off from the outside world. The filter system enables users to determine the muffling themselves.
